Who We Are and What We Do

We are a group of people who recognize the importance of the trees that are along our streets, in our parks and around our homes, businesses and public buildings.  We teach people about all the critically important benefits created by urban trees, why these trees need extra care, and the proper ways to give them that care.  Learn more about tree benefits here.
We also organize planting events, pruning events and tree care workdays so people can get involved.  Click on the "Get Involved" tab at the left of your screen to learn more!

History of Heartland Tree Alliance

When the Kansas City region’s community forest was devastated by an ice storm in early 2002, the Right Tree Right Place coalition was formed to address the problem and create solutions.

Businesses, non-profit groups, government agencies, forestry professionals and concerned citizens made up the group. Participants included Time Warner Cable, Kansas City Power & Light, The Kansas City Star, Powell Gardens, Mid-America Regional Council, Bridging The Gap, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Kansas Forest Service, among many others.

In early 2004 Bridging The Gap, created a community forestry organization under their umbrella - Heartland Tree Alliance. This organization serves the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, working regionally in both Kansas and Missouri.
